Expansion of SAFRAN Shop 2 Plant in Querétaro

Governor Mauricio Kuri González visited the ongoing expansion of the SAFRAN Shop 2 plant in Querétaro, a project that is currently 60% complete. This expansion will significantly increase the plant's capacity to repair aircraft engines, offering maintenance and inspection services for the entire North American continent. The project is expected to create 500 new jobs.

During his visit to the French-origin company’s mobile unit, which is a global leader in aircraft engine production, the Governor met with Ross McInnes, Chairman of the Safran Board, who provided details about the investment plan. The plan includes the construction of the second MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) workshop, set to start operations in 2026.

The new plant will span 14,000 square meters and will add significant capabilities to Safran’s global MRO network for the LEAP engine, which is used in a variety of commercial aircraft. The expansion will allow Safran Aircraft Engine Services Americas to increase its annual engine repair capacity by 150 engines, reaching a total of 350 engines per year by 2030.

The CEO emphasized that the construction of the new maintenance workshop is being carried out by a local Querétaro company. The facility is also being designed to meet the highest environmental standards as part of Safran’s low-carbon strategy.

During the visit to the investment project, the following people went to the inauguration:

  • Alejandro Cardona Seemann, President of Safran Mexico.

  • Philippe Errera, Director of International Development and Government Relations for Safran Group.

  • Pierre Buhot-Launay, Director of Safran Aircraft Engine Services Americas.

  • Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, Secretary of Sustainable Development.

  • Liliana San Martín Castillo, Secretary of Labor.

  • Alejandro Rolland Ruiz, Director of Industrial Promotion.

Safran in Querétaro:

Safran, a French multinational aerospace manufacturer, has established a strong presence in Querétaro, which is one of the leading hubs for aerospace manufacturing in Mexico. The state has become an attractive location for the aerospace sector due to its skilled workforce, strategic location, and solid infrastructure. The SAFRAN Shop 2 plant expansion represents a significant part of Safran’s broader growth strategy in the region.

Querétaro’s aerospace industry has seen rapid growth in recent years, attracting major international companies like Safran, Bombardier, GE Aviation, and Honda Aircraft, among others. The expansion of Safran’s operations in Querétaro aligns with the state's push to become a global aerospace center, benefiting from its proximity to the United States, well-established logistics networks, and government support for the aerospace sector.

Safran’s investment is a testament to the growing importance of Querétaro in the global aerospace supply chain, offering not just manufacturing but also vital services such as MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul). The addition of SAFRAN Shop 2 will strengthen the region's ability to serve the aviation industry, increase employment opportunities, and solidify Querétaro’s position as a top destination for high-tech aerospace manufacturing and services.
